FREE GIFT? Or it's just a Marketing Gimmick  

Free gift? Or it's just a gimmick? Some retail shop will manipulate the value of free gift which is much higher than the actual price. This gift is then bundled to a product in order to enhance customer's perceived value of that bundle.

A common example: 

  • Buy 65" UHD TV FREE 32" LED TV etc. 
  • The cost of 32" may in fact be added to the bundle. Most of the time, the total spending of 65" and 32"might be much lower than this sale bundle if you buy SEPARATELY elsewhere. 
  • In this case, this might be an UNNECESSARY "extra" spending. 

Why do they do that? 

  1. To clear the slow moving or old stock through this free gift bundle. Normally the fast selling product will hardly use as free gift 
  2. Psychological impact on customer. Customer might feel it is worth to buy one and get one free. 
How to be a smart buyer of electrical goods? 

  1. Question the bundle, google a more accurate price of free gift. Pick up your smart phone and on the spot key in the brand, model number in google. Eg, price of 32" (Brand)xxx (Model) XX32XX
