An unbiased analysis on QLED and OLED. How to choose?
I hope I could assess unbiasedly on both QLED and OLED technology. It covers the analysis on the following 5 perspectives:
(1.) the differences in the technology
(2.) QLED or OLED, the PRO & CON.
(3) QLED or OLED, how to choose?
(4.) the participation of brands
(5.) the future development of both giants.
(1.) The differences in both QLED and OLED technologies
QLED
I have written a detailed explanation of QLED technology in this article (click HERE). To summarise, QLED is a breakthrough in screen technology of which it inserts a particular Quantum Dot film in front of LED backlight. QLED then illuminates and turns the light from LED backlight into stunning, brighter billion of colors.
Unlike OLED, QLED is NOT self-emissive. It is depending on the source of light from LED backlight to perform billion of color (Light conversion to Color). As such, the name by itself is self-explanatory- QLED (Quantum Dot Light Emitting Diode).
OLED
On the contrary, OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diodes. To define, the pixel in the panel can independently be switched ON or Off. Each pixel can produce the light. They are "alive".
Because of the capability of On and Off by individual pixel, while the screen needs to show black color, the particular pixel will OFF completely. The black color is hence more convincing. This also makes the refresh rates which are really quick like the lightning.
However, if the screen (movie) shows excessive bright area, the brightness produced by OLED pixel is not as convincing as Quantum Dot in QLED.
The production cost of OLED is much higher due to "alive" pixel. This causes a higher consumer price. QLED, on the other hand, with its non-self-emissive light emitting diode, the chance of QLED panel getting the burn mark is almost zero. This leads to the Samsung marketing move of 10 Year Warranty on burn mark issue.

(2.) QLED or OLED, the Pro, and Con
The pro and con of both screen technology are, in fact, the reversal of each other. See the following comparison diagram.
(3.) QLED or OLED, which one to choose?
While choosing the highest end electrical goods, it is advisable not to go into a very detailed study on which technology is better for games or movie, for example. Each has pro and con. It should be based on your entertainment needs and financial capability as a guideline.

Your needs do matter
Eg. Following my own 20 years of experience in Brunei TV industry, the black produced by Samsung QLED in my Samsung QLED School is the darkest black that I have ever experienced. Of course theoretically, OLED can produce a much better black as argued by TV expertise.
But I am not a TV critic.
I am just a consumer. From a customer point of view, I will analyze this against a more friendly price point by QLED. I feel the value for money that I am financially capable to spend on QLED.
Secondly, a more important factor is the trend of producing HDR content by movie maker. Brightness shown in HDR content is the major development. HDR produces and delivers more and more light levels our eyes see in the real world. Because of this, QLED which produce better brightness and color matches with this HDR trend.

(4.) The participation of brands
QLED TV
It is a rebranding of SUHD by Samsung, it makes up a huge proportion of Samsung's TV portfolio in 2018 and 2019. Other brands such as Philips, TCL has also introduced their own QLED range in 2019.
OLED TV
Despite its challenge in the production and higher cost, it has shown improved market presence, the key market players are LG, Sony, and Panasonic.
The ambitious product extension and innovation of QLED, such as the launching of 8K
QLED by Samsung in 2019, retains the Samsung market leadership position now and the near future.
With the current Samsung strong QLED product line up and extended value proposition, Samsung will continue to achieve its economy of scale from the mass QLED production. This inevitably will benefit end users in the form of more competitive pricing.
As far as Brunei electrical industry is concerned, I personally feel that 2019 will be a year of QLED booming. The immediate future of mainstream TV in the globe could still belong to Samsung QLED.

(5.) The future of QLED
The emergence of Samsung TRUE-QLED is anticipated to introduce in 2020, if not later. Similarly to OLED, TRUE QLED is SELF EMISSIVE.
First Samsung TRUE-QLED display showcased in BOE
"When it is released it is expected to provide the strongest challenge to OLED yet, as it brings many of the same benefits as OLED, with few potential drawbacks." Says David Tett, Market Analyst at Futuresource Consulting.

TRUE-QLED TVs should retain their brightness advantage, at the same time, they are capable to switch off individual pixel.
To conclude this paper, QLED and OLED have their own pro and con. The purchasing decision should be based on individual entertainment needs and budget. The ambitious product extension and innovation of QLED, such as the launching of 8K
