Your Definitive Guide to purchase the right QLED or UHD.

Shoppers in Brunei, your attention needed.

Nowadays, shopping for a right UHD TV is more complicated than ever, and if you want more than just a good deal---a TV that's future proof, for instance---read on.

This is because all those labeled as 4K UHD TV may not have the REAL features that are compulsory for 4K experiences. To get the true immersive 4K experience or Future-proof UHD TV, the following checklist is suggested.

Section A: TECHNOLOGY needed for FUTURE-PROOF
4K vs. UHD. Do they really matter?
4K and UHD are two different things in term of resolution. This is confusing sometime in the Brunei market. Let's discuss a bit on the difference between 4K and UHD.

4K is a professional production and cinema standard. On the other hand, UHD is launched later after the introduction of 4K. UHD is a consumer display and broadcast standard.

The term “4K” originally derives from the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI). It is a consortium of motion picture studios that standardized a spec for the production of 4K content.

The horizontal pixel count of 4K is around 4000 plus (4096). In this case, 4K is 4,096 by 2,160. It is exactly four times the previous standard for digital editing and projection (2K, or 2,048 by 1,080).

UHD is the next step up from what’s called Full HD (for the display resolution of 1,920 by 1,080). UHD quadruples that resolution to 3,840 by 2,160.

It’s not the same as the 4K resolution mentioned above.

Almost every TV advertised as 4K is actually UHD. However, there are some panels by some brands that are 4,096 by 2,160, which adds up to an aspect ratio of 1.9:1. But the vast majority are 3,840 by 2,160, for a 1.78:1 aspect ratio.

In other words, the standardized spec for the consumer market (broadcast) is 3,840 by 2,160. Generally, brands will name it as 4K UHD or UHD. It doesn't matter. They are mostly referring to 3,850 x 2160.

What really matters is whether they are UHD RGB or UHD RGBW.

From the 3,850 x 2160 pixels, every pixel consists of three color-Red, Green and Blue. This is UHD with RGB. This generates 100% color volume, e.g., Samsung UHD or QLED. However some of the brands they are RGBW. That means the first pixel is RGB and the second one is White. The third one is RCB and the fourth one is White and so on. This generates 64% color volume in overall.

It is advisable to look into what type of UHD? Are they UHD RGB or UHD RGBW prior to your purchase.
HDR (High Dynamic Range) is the trend Now and future.
HDR (High Dynamic Range) is the most popular format in the movie and drama production industry today. It is a technology which will expand the range of the content or scene. It will let you see more hidden details through better brightness and color accuracy. For detail reading, pls click HERE.

Without HDR, you only see part of the picture

With HDR it expands the range of the content and let you see the hidden details

It will improve the brightness or huge contrast ratio and express a wide range of color definition

In order to enjoy HDR, you need 3 parts:

1) Production of content in HDR or
2) Broadcast of content in HDR such as Netflix or Amazon.
3) A UHD which is HDR compatible and with wide color volume

Bear in mind that not all the UHD which labeled as HDR ready in Brunei means they can produce the technology as mentioned above. It only means it supports HDR format. You need another key technology, the color drive which can produce a Wide Color Gamut. Wide Color Gamut works hand in hand with HDR.
Wide Color Gamut or High Color Volume is important to express the color in the expanded ranges of the content by HDR. It must be at least 8 bit.

While purchasing UHD, please pay attention to the description of the COLOR DRIVE. It is the basic factor that influences the color performance of any UHD. The reproduction of color that closed to the real life color is very much dependent on the types of color drive.

E.g. All the Samsung UHD is 8 bit under its specific Color Drive "PurColor". 10 bit and above for Samsung UHD Series 7400 and QLED.
In this color gamut graph, the smallest triangle is standard SDR color. The next two largest represent P3 and Rec 2020 color, both are considered Wide Color Gamut, part of HDR
UHD Upscaling is a Must-Know feature in every UHD TV irrespective of the brand.
You might see a 4K signal demonstration in most of the electrical retail shop in Brunei. You, however, DO NOT always have the chance to watch the broadcast of 4K signal from sources such as Astro or Youtube or other streaming apps which normally broadcasting SD(480P) or HD (720P) quality.

UHD Upscaling comes into place to solve this problem. It is a unique technology to automatically detect an incoming signal and UPSCALE it to UHD Compatible quality. It's a MUST-HAVE feature in any UHD TV irrespective of the brand.

Visit our Samsung UHD School, we will activate the feature and show you the difference between TV with and without UHD Upscaling features.
This feature might not available in the entry-level UHD of other branded. This is very much depending on their LED backlight Dimming technology.

What is UHD Dimming?
A scene is divided into an incredible amount of tiny zones(blocks). t then scans every block for the following function:
1) To adjust the brightness (delivering darker blacks and brighter whites)
2) To improve the sharpness
3) To eliminate the "halo" effect and image distortion.

This will let you enjoy a crystal clear
pictures especially playing Action movie or Sports program. All the Samsung UHD or QLED is a pioneer in mastering UHD backlight dimming.
UHD Picture Processor is the most important element to deliver and control overall picture quality. It is just like our heart or "central control unit". For Samsung, the UHD processor orchestrates color, optimizes high contrast ratio and masters HDR.
Section B: SIZE does matter-Go big
Bigger is definitely better. You can consider going bigger while the price gap between 49" ($799 by Getit), 55"($1169 by Getit) and 65" ($1559 by Getit) are very narrow.

This is because 4K features a much higher pixel density than 1080p HDTVs, so you can sit closer without sacrificing image quality.

This essentially means that you can get a larger screen than you may be used to. You'll get the most effect from a 4K TV if it is taking up a large portion of your field of view.
Section C: CONNECTIVITY- What's HDCP?
PS check HDCP 2.2 compatibility. HDCP is a copyright protection technology to playback 4K content from a UHD Blu-ray player or other 4K devices.

You'll need to have your 4K devices connected to an HDMI port that supports HDCP 2.2. Many 4K TVs only have one HDMI port that supports it. In Samsung UHD, all the HDMI ports are HDCP 2.2 compatible.
Section D: WHAT TECHNOLOGY TO IGNORE?
Some of the features are just for marketing jargon from different brands. They are reflecting on the same thing with different terminology.

Many customers came to Getit and asked questions such as "what is refresh rate?" or "how many hertz?"

From these questions, I can guess they are still using LED TV whereby the marketing jargon by brands in the past few years is fighting on the "number game" of contrast ratio or motion rate.

Time changes. Technology changes. The expectation of UHD TV should be based on the new criteria in this checklist.

As such the following OLD criteria should receive less attention while purchasing UHD:
(1) Refresh rate - Basically, all the branded will have a suitable refresh rate for virtually all viewers.
(2) Contrast ratios - These measurements are completely different for each manufacturer. They can be safely ignored. If you can, shop in person so that you can see the contrast differences yourself.
(3) "TruMotion," "MotionFlow"(by Sony), "Clear Motion Rate"(by Samsung) etc. - These are all marketing terms for high refresh rates, and don't really mean anything to the average viewer. For example, Samsung has removed this "Clear Motion Rate" many years ago in its UHD range.

In any festive season last minute shopping rush, you might see lots of great deals on 4K UHD TV by brands. It may be tempting to go with the cheaper deal, but please double check the TV offered against the ultimate guideline suggested by Getit.

A UHD which priced at B$599 for 49" but they are missing around 50% of the criteria discussed in this article against B$799 of the same size by Samsung (from Getit) with ALL the criteria above, the former will be considered as a very Expensive UHD.

Happy shopping. Pls, contact me anytime for any assistance you needed.

The following are our customer's review on Getit for your reference. You can access the similar contents in the Review section of our FB page.

Was looking for a good 4K TV as our current coming-7 year old 46” TV is starting to show its age. Asked a friend for a good place to buy one and was recommended to check out Getit.com.bn for their pricing relating to value, latest models availability, and after sale service — all of which are crucial to me for a big purchase.

Reached out Getit via FB messenger and was attended to instantly and is technically very knowledgeable of which I learned a lot more about the latest audio and video technologies, such as the pros and cons between and features in UHDs, PUHDs, QLEDs, competitors’ OLEDs, curved vs flat, and etc. Of course I also did research from other sources to avoid unbiased views.

So I ended up getting the Samsung 65” Curved 4K PUHD TV at a really good price. 😊😊Personally it is the best TV you can get when you think of the pricing territory. It comes with an assuring 2-year warranty from Samsung as well.

Got interested and bought the Samsung HWN650 Soundbar as well for its price, features (the acoustic beam technology especially) and its minimalism (less clutter and wiring compared to our almost 7-yr old home theater).

These are still on their way but I am confident that they will be delivered on time πŸ˜‰

Definitely will come again to Getit as the boss there, Angus, sure did bring confidence in my purchase. πŸ‘πŸ»

Getit.com.bn provide another level of shopping experience in a country that is fairly brick and mortar based. Shopping experience with getit.com.bn is entirely virtual- the customer contact the provider and request information of a particular item and when both parties reach an agreement the customer pay for the item online and within a few days it is delivered to the doorstep.

My experience purchasing a front-loading Samsung washer was painless and saves my time too. Angus sent me several information leaflets and websites to look at from Facebook Messenger and I was able to make an informed decision when purchasing the washer.

The washer itself is exactly what I was expecting and Angus went to great lengths to get me started with Q-Rator app. A very approachable and knowledgable man, Angus never hesitate and gave me concise information about the washer. An overall positive experience.

I believe this was the best shopping experience that I ever encounter. Not just because the value for the money but mostly on their product knowledge which makes it even more interesting in choosing the product.

Their customer service is of a quality standard, Angus and team will try to accommodate to the customer needs and budget.

Overall shopping with this company is a must for every customers looking for a perfect TV.

Getit, I had a great experience with this company, I really like the idea of development of online business, not only does it reduce the cost of operations, but helps customers get a better price for the Product. So I decided to purchase my TV from this company, the Sales guy was very enthusiastic, and insisted that I come and visit him in he’s Samsung school.

This made me feel that this was a legit business and made me confident in dealing with him.

The Samsung School, has educated me in all the new technology’s that 4K TVs has to offer, he showed me the difference between a sense of Depth from the Curve TVs and the difference between a Premium UHD and a standard one.

I had so many old TVs in my house not being used and Getit managed to sell them.

The TV arrived in a week, there was very coordination involved. I would say the customer service is excellent and very professional.

Shopping at getit.com.bn is a great experience. When you already know what you want then all you have to do is tell Angus and he does the rest. When you are not sure what to get then Angus is there to advice. I am a returning customer and I am a very satisfied one everytime.

Fantastic service. Stopped by their store with enquiries for a washer I saw on their website but ended up purchasing a Samsung 55" UHD Curved TV (after a brilliant sales pitch by the boss) and a Samsung 13kg washer. After looking around many different electronic stores in Brunei, I've concluded Getit has the lowest price (even when other stores are on sale).

Delivery was prompt and communication between Getit was flawless as the boss updated me on the delay/expected delivery day/time. Stress free purchase with installation and set up included. I would highly recommend everyone to purchase from them and would purchase my future electronics from them.

Outstanding service from Mr Angus and Ms Meera. Exceptional and vast knowledge on the products. Initial plan was just to buy TV, but ended up buying 55 UHD curved TV and curved Soundbar.

Mr Angus suggested the best product based on our requirement and budget. Now, both my wife and I are enjoying the products. No regrets! Well done!!! Will definitely buy more products from you in the future.

Been scouting for a new 4k and came across getit.com from Facebook. Very competitive price compared to other shops. Attended their Samsung UHD school by Mr Angus and learnt a lot of info on their 4K TV and Soundbar. High recommended. would shop again in the future.
